My sister took this picture today of them starting street tests for Cincinnati’s new streetcar system

Charlotte also has a streetcar system, but, according to the media, it has been a massive failure. I think streetcars are super cool, and I want more.

It’s not autonomous?

No I think that would have been too much money for the city

The only thing I don’t like about it is that it wasn’t built all the way to University of Cincinnati, so I can’t take it down to OTR/downtown.

It goes down a rail, and makes the same stops over and over. If we can’t set that up for less than paying 3 drivers salaries for the next 20 years, then there’s no hope for an affordable autonomous car.

Looking quite good. Where are these produced?
They’re looking to replace the Italian trams from the late 90’s and Norwegian trams from the late 70’s/early 80’s here in Oslo now, since they’re either unreliable or a bit outdated. The challenging bit is the climate and narrow tight tramlines, but I hope they get something solid..

Exactly! walking around downtown isn’t a big deal, but I would love it if it came up into oakley and hyde park. I think there’s a planned extension to take it to UC last I heard, but we’ll see if that ever happens

Not to mention if it did, it will be after I graduate since I don’t have much longer left. However Oakley/Hyde Park would be great, that’s where I’m thinking of moving next.

From what my sister has said there are expansion plans in the books but they are waiting to see how this mini loop goes first. So if it does well it could see expansion after a few years if those neighborhoods want it. But yeah walking around downtown wasn’t bad when I was in town for oktoberfest

Yep so I hope it is successful, because of all the opposition its had, if it isn’t very successful then they’ll want to scrap the extension

American company. Designed and built here in America. I don’t care that it’s a subsidiary of a Spanish corporation. It’s headquartered in DC and built in New York

Yeah, but if the municipality of Oslo would order something from CAF, it won’t be made in America. Experience with snow and wet climate were lacking on the Italian trams, and I’m not sure if these would be any better in that sense.
